About Kevin Flynn
Kevin Flynn is an American numismatist, author, and variety specialist known for his detailed research into United States coinage. He has written more than 50 books on U.S. coins, with a strong focus on die varieties, minting history, and archival documentation.
Before becoming widely known in numismatics, Flynn served as a U.S. Naval Reserve aviation electronics technician. He later earned a B.S. in computer science from Temple University and an M.Eng. from Penn State, and worked for more than two decades as a computer programmer.
Flynn returned seriously to coin collecting in 1989, and soon became known for his methodical approach to numismatic research. He has spent extensive time studying primary-source Mint records at the National Archives, using original documentation to clarify how coins were designed, produced, and modified over time.
His books include numerous Authoritative Reference volumes covering series such as Two-Cent pieces, Lincoln cents, and Eisenhower dollars, along with Treasure Hunting guides aimed at collectors searching for valuable die varieties.
Flynn’s work is especially valued by collectors who want to go beyond basic date-and-mintmark collecting. Through his research, he has helped document important varieties, explain minting processes, and make advanced attribution information more accessible to everyday collectors.
