Portugal is supporting their 2016 Olympics team with the release of special commemorative 2 Euro coins.
Portugal 2016 Commemorative 2 Euro featuring the Independant Red Heart
The reverse of the coin bears the standard 2 Euro coin design that appears on all legal tender 2 euro coins. The obverse was designed by artist Joana Vasconcelos, and is inspired by her own work entitled “Independent Red Heart”.
The theme is meant to symbolize that the entire nation’s heart and soul will be with the Portuguese Olympic team as the compete in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
The legend on the obverse reads : “EQUIPA CLIMPICA DE PORTUGAL 2016” and “JOANA VASCONCELOS”. With the Portuguese Olympics Committee logo below.
The bi-metallic coins will be released in proof with a mintage of 10 000. Brilliant uncirculated also with a mintage of 10 000 units. The coins will also be released for general circulation.
The proof and brilliant uncirculated coins are released in a specially printed blister pack.
The proof coins are being made available for €17.22 each and the brilliant uncirculated for €9.84
