The U.S. Mint has turned 2026 into the busiest year the revived Morgan dollar and Peace dollar have ever had. Six distinct 2026 Morgan and Peace dollars have now been announced across three finishes and two mints, every one of them carrying a date that no earlier silver dollar has worn: 1776 ~ 2026. Two are already on sale, two more are still available from the Mint, and the last pair arrives on November 12.

For collectors trying to work out which 2026 Morgan silver dollar or 2026 Peace dollar they actually need, the answer depends on finish, mintmark and budget. Bought at issue price, the complete run costs about $1,059 before shipping. This guide sets all six side by side.

One date, one privy mark, six coins

Whatever the finish, every 2026 Morgan and Peace dollar shares the same core. Each is struck in .999 fine silver at 0.859 troy ounce, measures 1.500 inches (38.10 mm) across with a reeded edge, and pairs the semiquincentennial dual date with a Liberty Bell privy mark bearing the numeral 250. That combination makes 2026 a one year type within the modern series, regardless of which version you buy.

The designs are the originals. George T. Morgan’s Liberty and heraldic eagle sit on one coin, Anthony de Francisci’s radiant crowned Liberty and resting eagle above the word PEACE on the other. What changes from version to version is the surface the Mint has put around them.

From 1878 to 1921: why the pairing works

The Morgan dollar entered production in 1878 and became the workhorse silver dollar of the late 19th century, struck at Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, Carson City and Denver. It made its final appearance in 1921, the same year the Peace dollar replaced it. De Francisci’s design, struck through 1935, was meant to mark the end of the First World War, and the US Peace dollar remains one of the few American coins to put a single word of intent on its reverse.

That shared year is why the two dollars travel together. When the Mint revived both designs in 2021 for the 1921 centennial, it gave collectors new Morgan dollars and an American Peace dollar for the first time in generations. From 2023 to 2025 the pairing was sold as a San Francisco reverse proof two-coin set. In 2026 the Mint broke that format apart, and then built a new one.

The 2026 reverse proof Morgan and Peace dollars

The first of the year’s issues went on sale July 9 at noon EDT, and they broke with the recent pattern in two ways. For the first time, the reverse proofs were sold individually rather than as a set, at $173 each, and they were struck at Philadelphia with a P mintmark where earlier reverse proofs carried the San Francisco S.

A reverse proof inverts the familiar cameo look: the fields are frosted and the devices are polished to a mirror, so Liberty and the eagle shine against a matte background. The Mint lists a mintage limit of 250,000 for each coin, the Morgan as item 26XF and the Peace as 26XL, packaged in a blue presentation box.

Demand arrived quickly. CoinWeek reported 303,742 coins sold across the two designs in the first four days.By the reporting period ending October 18, cumulative sales stood at 165,786 for the 2026 reverse proof Morgan dollar and 149,885 for the 2026 reverse proof Peace dollar, with neither marked as sold out. The Morgan has led the Peace since launch, a gap that has held steady at roughly ten percent.

Enhanced uncirculated, struck at West Point without a W

Seven weeks later the Mint added a second finish and a second mint. The enhanced uncirculated Morgan (26XE) and Peace (26XH) dollars went on sale August 25 at $169 each, with a 250,000 limit on each design, and were struck at West Point.

The enhanced uncirculated finish combines several textures on a single uncirculated strike, layering frosted and brilliant surfaces to separate design elements that a standard uncirculated coin would render flat. CoinNews describes these as the first enhanced uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollars of the modern series.

The detail that caught collectors off guard was on the coin itself. Despite their West Point origin, the Mint’s specifications say both coins carry no mintmark, though graders and dealers often label them as 2026-W. That makes them the only 2026 Morgan and Peace dollars without a mintmark, and the easiest to tell apart in hand. Through October 18, sales reached 102,700 Morgans and 95,175 Peace dollars.

The Diamond Field two-coin set

The final 2026 Morgan and Peace dollar set is also the most technically ambitious. The Morgan and Peace Dollar 2026 Diamond Field Two-Coin Set (26XS) goes on sale November 12 at 12 noon ET for $375, with both coins struck at Philadelphia and carrying the P mintmark. The Mint describes the finish as something never before used on a U.S. coin, developed specifically for the semiquincentennial.

Instead of a smooth field, both sides of each coin carry a laser engraved lattice of small diamond facets. For how the finish is made, why the Mint says it protects fine detail, and what to expect on launch day, see our full guide to the 2026 Diamond Field Morgan and Peace dollars.

The Mint’s product page currently lists a mintage and product limit of 262,500 sets. Earlier reporting gave a figure of 160,000, so check the product page on release day before planning an order.

Which 2026 Morgan and Peace dollar to buy

For a collector who wants one representative coin of each design, the enhanced uncirculated pair is the cheapest route at $338, and its missing mintmark makes it the distinctive variety of the year. For those who have collected the reverse proof sets since 2023, the individual Philadelphia reverse proofs continue that run in a new form. And for anyone chasing the new finish, the Diamond Field set is the only way to get it, with both designs in one box.

Set builders face a simpler question. A complete 2026 Morgan and Peace dollar collection needs all six coins, three mintmark states and three finishes, and the last two cannot be ordered until November 12.

A year that rewrote the series

When the Mint revived the Morgan and Peace dollars in 2021, the idea was a centennial tribute. Six years on, 2026 has made the pairing the Mint’s testing ground: a new mint for the reverse proofs, a new finish at West Point, and a field treatment no American coin has carried before. The Liberty Bell privy mark and the 1776 ~ 2026 dual date will tie all six together long after the anniversary year closes. Whether collectors remember 2026 for the reverse proofs, the coins without a W, or the diamond pattern still to come, it is already the most varied year the new Morgan dollars and Peace dollars have had.

Frequently asked questions

How many 2026 Morgan and Peace dollars are there? There are six 2026 Morgan and Peace dollars: a reverse proof Morgan and a reverse proof Peace dollar from Philadelphia, an enhanced uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollar from West Point, and a Morgan and Peace pair in the Diamond Field two-coin set from Philadelphia. All six carry the 1776 ~ 2026 dual date and a Liberty Bell privy mark with the numeral 250. Bought at issue price, the full run costs about $1,059 before shipping.

What is the difference between the reverse proof, enhanced uncirculated and Diamond Field versions? The reverse proofs have frosted fields with mirrored designs and were struck at Philadelphia with a P mintmark. The enhanced uncirculated coins combine several finishes on an uncirculated strike and were made at West Point with no mintmark. The Diamond Field coins replace the smooth field with a laser engraved diamond pattern and are sold only as a two-coin set from Philadelphia.

What is the Diamond Field finish? Diamond Field is a new finish created by the U.S. Mint for the semiquincentennial, in which the field of the coin is covered by a repeating pattern of small diamond facets that contrasts with the raised design. The Mint says it has never appeared on a United States coin before. It is used only on the Morgan and Peace Dollar 2026 Diamond Field Two-Coin Set.

When does the Diamond Field two-coin set go on sale? The Morgan and Peace Dollar 2026 Diamond Field Two-Coin Set (item 26XS) goes on sale from the U.S. Mint on November 12, 2026, at 12 noon ET. It is priced at $375. The Mint’s product page currently lists a limit of 262,500 sets and no household order limit, though the Mint can add or change limits at any time.

Do the 2026 enhanced uncirculated Morgan and Peace dollars have a W mintmark? No. Although both coins were struck at West Point, the Mint’s specifications state they carry no mintmark. Grading services and dealers often label them 2026-W to identify the mint of origin, but the W does not appear on the coin itself.

Are the 2026 Morgan and Peace dollars real silver? Yes. Every 2026 Morgan and Peace dollar is struck in .999 fine silver and contains 0.859 troy ounce of silver. Each coin measures 1.500 inches (38.10 mm) in diameter with a reeded edge, matching the specifications used since the 2021 revival.

Can you still buy the 2026 reverse proof Morgan and Peace dollars from the Mint? As of the U.S. Mint’s sales report for the period ending October 18, 2026, neither reverse proof was marked as sold out, with 165,786 Morgans and 149,885 Peace dollars sold against limits of 250,000 each. The enhanced uncirculated coins were also still listed, at 102,700 Morgans and 95,175 Peace dollars sold. Availability can change quickly, so check the Mint’s product pages directly.

Why are the Morgan dollar and Peace dollar sold together? The two designs meet in 1921, the year the Morgan dollar was last struck for circulation and the Peace dollar was introduced. The Mint revived both in 2021 for that centennial and has paired them ever since, including San Francisco reverse proof two-coin sets from 2023 to 2025.
